April dev update
Badges, Control & Building What’s Next
Plenty has been going on at DartCounter recently.
After focusing heavily on stability last month, we’ve continued improving reliability across the platform, while also starting to introduce new features that lay the groundwork for what’s coming next.
Some of these changes are small on the surface, but they’re important steps toward a bigger vision.
Here’s what’s been happening.
Introducing Badges
This month we introduced something new: profile badges.
For a while now, we’ve been thinking about better ways to recognise and reward players, especially those supporting us through DartCounter Ultimate. Badges are one of the first steps in that direction.
You can now select a badge to display on your profile and show what you’ve earned (or what you’re part of).
We’ve already released the first few, including a limited-time badge during the Golden Easter Egg challenge, and this is just the start. We’ll be expanding this system with more badges and new ways to unlock them over time.
Tournament Improvements
Tournaments have been another big focus area.
Over the past few weeks we’ve worked through a number of edge cases and frustrating issues, like players being removed from matches unexpectedly or problems joining your next game while spectating.
Alongside fixes, we’ve also started giving tournament hosts more control. Things like managing check-ins, handling players more directly, and adding flexibility during matches are all steps towards making tournaments easier to run and more reliable overall.
If you’ve been following closely, you might have noticed we’ve also started hinting at something new around tournaments recently. We’re not ready to fully reveal it yet, but these improvements are part of the groundwork for what’s coming next.
There’s still more to improve here, but things are definitely moving in the right direction.
Statistics & Scaling Challenges
Last few weeks, some of you noticed issues with statistics.
Things like games not syncing, syncing taking longer than usual, or profile stats not always being fully up to date. We know how important stats are, so we completely understand how frustrating that can be.
The reason behind this is growth.
DartCounter continues to grow rapidly, with millions of matches being played every month. To keep up with that demand, and to make sure we can support the platform for years to come, we’ve been doing some heavy lifting behind the scenes.
Our goal was to roll out these changes without you noticing anything… but unfortunately, that didn’t go entirely as planned.
The good news is that this work is still ongoing and we’ve already made major strides. Things are improving, and this effort will ultimately result in faster, more reliable statistics across the board.
Camera & Connectivity
We’ve continued building on the camera improvements from last month.
Reconnections are becoming more stable, streams recover faster when something goes wrong, and a few edge cases (like losing the board view as a spectator) have been resolved.
Just like last month, the number of camera-related issues continues to go down, which is exactly what we want to see.
What’s Coming Next...
We’re not just focusing on fixes.
Last update we hinted at a feature we’re very excited about. That feature hasn’t been announced or teased yet, but we’re getting closer to that point, so keep your eyes peeled.
A big part of what we’ve been working on recently is laying the foundation for upcoming features. Some of the changes this month might seem small, but they’re important building blocks for what’s coming next.
There are a few features getting closer now, that we’re really excited about. Still not ready to fully reveal them yet, but we think they’re going to make a big impact.
More on that soon.
Thanks for the Feedback
A lot of what we improve comes directly from your feedback.
The bug reports, ideas, and suggestions from the community help us prioritise what matters most, and it genuinely makes a difference in what we build.
So keep it coming, we’re listening!
