Shanghai Darts Game

Shanghai is a classic and popular darts game that you can play on DartCounter. The game is easy to understand, but remains tense because you can win instantly with a perfect Shanghai turn. Additionally, you can practice singles, doubles and trebles at the same time. This makes the game ideal for darts practice and competitive play.

How to play Shanghai darts

In Shanghai darts, you throw in ascending order. This means you always start low and move up. Each round has one target number. If you’re aiming for the one in the first round, you should aim at single 1, double 1 and treble 1. In the next round, you aim at 2, and so on.

You score points by hitting that number as a single, double or treble. The scoring works just like a normal darts match: a single counts as the face value, a double scores twice that value, and a treble score three times the value. Hitting any other number does not count for that round. After all rounds are completed, the player with the highest total score wins.

What is a Shanghai in darts?

There’s one way to finish early. If you successfully hit a Shanghai, you win the game instantly. You’ll be able to do so by hitting a single, double and treble of the same target, within the same round.

Game settings

In DartCounter, you can adjust the game to make it more unpredictable. You can choose to play from one to seven or from one to twenty. You can also turn on Require Number. When this setting is active, you must hit the current number. If you don’t hit it, your score is cut in half.

Another option is Require Treble. When this is enabled, you must hit the treble. If you fail to hit it, your total score will be reset to zero. This adds an extra layer of tension and keeps the game engaging from the start.

Tracking your progress in DartCounter

When you play Shanghai in the DartCounter app, you can track your performance and aim to improve your score each session. You can monitor your hit rate and see how effectively you’re hitting singles, doubles and trebles on the target number.

Shanghai is a great way to sharpen every part of your game. By practising all three segments, you build control and precision across the entire board. Play from 1 through 20 and you truly train full board coverage.

Master the board with Shanghai

Shanghai is a great game for mastering every segment of the board, including singles, doubles and trebles. The basic rules are simple and keep the game flowing, while the optional settings allow you to make it more challenging without changing the structure of the game. As you always move on to the next number, missing a target never stops the flow of the game. This makes darts practice more enjoyable, while still rewarding accurate darts scoring.

In just one round, a player can hit a Shanghai and win the game instantly. That’s what makes Shanghai so exciting. The match can flip in a single visit, keeping the tension high from start to finish.
